Educational Qualification

1. Nationality and Physical Fitness

Applicants must be citizens of India. From a medical point of view, candidates must possess binocular vision and be fully able to distinguish primary colours to effectively operate colour-coded telecom wiring, optical fibres and hardware indicator lamps.

Candidates must have a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) / Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree or equivalent from an institution recognized by the Central or State Government as on the last date.  Eligible engineering subjects include:

Salary :

Compensation is a key highlight of the BSNL Junior JTO Recruitment. Successful candidates are inducted into the IDA pay scale [E-1] of ₹16,400–₹40,500/- (based on the 2nd PRC pay scale framework). Alongside the basic pay, selected officers receive Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), medical facilities, and various other perks as per prevailing company rules.

BSNL JTO Recruitment 2026 Service Bond and Probation Period 

To ensure organizational stability and recover training expenses, BSNL requires selected officers to fulfill specific commitments:

Service Bond: All direct recruits must sign a mandatory service bond committing to serve BSNL for a minimum period of five years from their date of appointment. The financial liability of the bond is fixed at ₹6 Lakhs (Rupees Six Lakhs).

Probationary Period: New joiners will serve a mandatory probation period of two years.

Training Framework: Candidates will undergo rigorous structured training comprising a 10-week JTO Phase-I training module, followed by 4 weeks of intensive field training, and concluding with a 6-week JTO Phase-II specialization course. Passing the training exam on the first attempt is critical, as failing the second opportunity results in cancellation of your appointment.

To get a place through BSNL Junior Telecom Officer (JTO) recruitment, one has to pass a three-hour single-shift Computer Based Test (CBT). The test consists of multiple-choice objective type questions (MCQs) and is divided into three separate sections:

CBT Paper Structure

Section I: Engineering Stream (Main Subject): Consists of 50 questions worth 200 marks.

Section II: Engineering Stream (Advanced Subject): Consists of 50 questions worth 200 marks.

Section III: General Ability Test: Consists of 20 questions worth 80 marks.

Total: 120 questions making a total pool of 480 marks.

Important Marking Rules: Every correct response gives you +4 marks. On the flip side, each incorrect selection triggers a penalty of 1 mark. Unanswered questions face no penalties, correcting your top priority during the test.

Minimum Qualifying Marks Criteria for BSNL JTO Recruitment Exam

To get a place in the merit ranking, candidates have to meet clear sectional and overall cut-off criteria:

Unreserved and OBC (Creamy Layer): Must secure at least 40% marks in each section, along with securing a minimum of 50% in aggregate in all three sections.

SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwBD/EWS: Must secure a minimum of 35% marks in each section, along with securing a minimum of 45% in aggregate in all three sections.

BSNL JTO Section I Syllabus (Core Engineering)

Materials and Components: Properties of conductors, semiconductors, insulators, magnetic, ferroelectric, and ceramic materials; passive components like resistors, capacitors, and inductors.

Physical Electronics & ICs: Carrier statistics, junction theory, diodes, BJTs, FETs, power switching devices (SCRs, MOSFETs), and basic CMOS logic.

Network Theory: Network theorems, transient and steady-state sinusoidal responses, and basic network synthesis.

Electromagnetic Theory: Transmission lines, standing waves, impedance matching, microstrips, waveguides, and core antenna theory.

Measurements & Instrumentation: Transducers, digital and analog measuring instruments,error analysis, and basic industrial telemetry.

Analog & Digital  Electronic Circuits: Operational amplifiers, oscillators, Boolean algebra, logic families (TTL, ECL, CMOS), sequential circuits (flip-flops, counters), and A/D or D/A converters.

Control Systems: Feedback loops, transient response, stability analysis via Root Locus, and frequency response analysis using Nichols charts.

Communication Systems: Modulation techniques, optical fiber communications, signal propagation (HF, VHF, UHF, microwave), and satellite systems.

Microwave Engineering: Microwave tubes, solid-state devices, microstrip circuits, antennas, and terrestrial  communication links.
